Surabaya, November 2025 — Another outstanding achievement has been made by the academic community of the Master of Biomedical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, Airlangga University.
Prof. Dr. Prihartini Widiyanti, drg., M.Kes., S.Bio., CCD has successfully obtained a granted patent titled “Process for Manufacturing Bioresorbable Polylactic Acid/Polylactide (PLA/PLLA) Blood Vessel Scaffolds with a 5-Sulfate Chitosan Layer” with the number IDS000011385.
This invention relates to a process for manufacturing a bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) using a 3D printing method with polylactic acid and polylactide as the material, and coated with chitosan sulfate. The advantage of this invention is that it produces a BVS that has the ability to withstand loads and reduce the risk of thrombosis.
This patent affirms Prof. Prihartini Widiyanti’s commitment to developing leading research in the field of biomaterials and tissue engineering, as well as strengthening Airlangga University’s position as an institution that actively contributes to research-based health technology innovation.
This success inspires students and young researchers to continue innovating and developing scientific works that have high applied value in the medical world.
